How to use the Law of Attraction

At The Reset we’re not much into woo-woo wellness. We like grounded, practical, real-life ways to feel better and achieve our goals. 

 That’s why we wanted to look at The Law of Attraction, which at first can seem like the ultimate pile of rubbish when it comes to getting what you want. 

All you have to do is believe you’ve got something and then it will happen. It doesn’t sound convincing, does it? 

But the Law of Attraction goes so much deeper than just ‘believing’ you can get what you want.  

What is the Law of Attraction?

Put simply, the Law of Attraction is the belief that positive or negative thoughts bring positive or negative experiences into a person's life.

 

How does the Law of Attraction work? 

You don’t have to believe in energy or the Universe, to follow the simple principle that if you spend more time focusing on what you do want, you have more chance of making it happen. 

As a coach, I hear a lot of clients tell me what’s not working. We all know what we hate about our lives, what we wish was different or what we don’t want. 

If you love moaning to your mates about your other half, your crap boss or your lousy landlord, this might sound familiar. 

As a coach I aim to shift my clients’ perspectives and focus on what they do want, just like in the Law of Attraction.

Instead of acting like a friend you can have a moan with, when I’m in coaching position I work with clients to help them focus on what they do want to achieve. 

I ask questions like: 

 

  • What do you want it to be like?

  • What do you want to have?

  • What do you want to feel like? 

 

It’s incredible to see that many people don’t ever stop to flip the questions around. They’re so busy moaning and looking at the problems, they never think about what it would be like without them. 

The truth is, if we aren’t clear on where we’re trying to get to, we can’t get there. 

If we spend all our time talking about what we don’t want, we are closing down our mind’s ability to think of options and possibilities to get what we do want.  

Even if you’re not working with a coach, you can harness the power of the Law of Attraction yourself in very simple ways starting today. Because the more time we spend focusing on what we want: living and feeling it in our minds, talking about it and sharing it with others – the more our minds will look for ways to make it happen. 

Our brains are actually quite simple really. They don’t know the difference between fiction and reality. If you tell them something is going to happen then your brain will go along with it. It will look for the signs, repeat back the mantras and start to add things up to make it happen. It doesn’t really question what’s real and what not. 

 So why not harness that? 

 Rather than feeding your brain the lessons that there are only problems and barriers, why not tell it there are solutions and better outcomes? 

This principle of the Law of Attraction has the same foundation as other wellness concepts you might be familiar with – having a gratitude practice, and positive journaling. 

 Focusing every day on what we do want – what we are grateful for, what is positive and good in our lives, will train our brain to look for more. 

Our brain has to process 11 million pieces[1] of information every moment. So it’s having to make decisions all the time about what is and isn’t important. If we can spend just a little bit of time every day training it what is important i.e. the positives, it will naturally look more for these things in every day life.

Even starting with tiny things will start making the right pathways in our brain - like being grateful for your breakfast, your mobile phone, finding a coin on the floor or an uplifting message from a friend. 

Slowly but surely we’re looking for things that are good in our lives.
